Yuri Shmorgunbuilds software and
the teams that build it,
and automates the work with AI
Nearly two decades in Israeli startups, most of it starting from zero — systems that had to hold up at scale, and the teams built to carry them. Hands-on engineering first, then running R&D, now back at the keyboard at Datarails.
The work, in short
-
2026 — now
Lead BuilderDatarails
Building inside a finance platform used by teams who plan and close the books. AI has shrunk the teams and widened what each builder reaches — I spend mine on the junctions that decide how the rest goes.
-
2022 — 2026
VP R&DREIGO Investments
Built the R&D function from the process up — delivery, automation, and the habits that keep good engineers around. Brought AI into underwriting itself — work that used to take analysts days now runs automatically.
-
2019 — 2022
R&D Group Managervcita
Grew the group from 7 people to 20 across five teams in a matter of months, moved it onto a squad structure, and coached the team leads through architecture, design and review.
-
2012 — 2019
CTOWiseStamp
Seven years, senior developer to CTO. Rebuilt the product from scratch to carry millions of users, ran delivery end to end, and built an offshore team alongside the one in Tel Aviv — with enough hands-on code to stay honest about it.
-
2007 — 2012
Developer, then seniorWanted, Paragon Creations, WhiteSmoke, Alfabetic
Where it started: web apps, data-mining tools and multilingual dictionary databases, beginning as a student.
- Through line
- Taking the manual work out of how software and finance teams operate — first with process and code, now with AI doing the reading, sorting and checking.
- Tools
- Python and JavaScript, Google Cloud and AWS, MySQL and BigQuery, serverless, CI, and LLM systems put to work on real documents.
- Drawn to
- Teaching and mentoring, AI worth pointing at real problems, and games. The three I keep circling back to, product attached or not.
